Size It Up: How to Know What Size Your Newsletter Should Be Back

In the Lewis Carroll classic, Alice In Wonderland, Alice spent much of her time alternating between shrinking very small and growing quite large. You may find your newsletter going through some growing pains of its own. How do you know what size fits your newsletter best? Explore these options to “size it up!”

Super-Size It

If you find yourself packing your newsletter full each month, be sure to choose a format that gives you all the room you need. A four-page newsletter, printed on 11″ x 17″ paper and folded once in half, gives you lots of room to work with. This size newsletter also affords you lots of flexibility. If you find yourself wanting even more room, you can add a single 8½″ x 11″ sheet as an insert, or use another 11″ x 17″ sheet to add four more pages. This is the most common size for a newsletter. You may find that you like this size, but are worried that you don’t have enough content to fill it up. The filler articles we provide you will make your newsletter interesting, informative, and get it read by your readers. This size of newsletter is the most common size for a newsletter. It gives your newsletter a professional look.

Short & Sweet

A single 8½″ x 11″ sheet gives you a neat and tidy two page newsletter. This size is perfect for a newsletter that goes out monthly, but doesn’t contain enough information to fill up a four page format every issue. You may find that your newsletter budget is tight. Using this option allows you to continue to send out a newsletter each and every month. This is important if you’d like to keep up good communication with your residents on a monthly basis, but can’t afford to send out a large format newsletter that often.

Different Strokes

You may decide to go with a non-standard format. Try choosing a legal size sheet (8½″ x 14″) for your four-page newsletter. Even 8½″ x 11″ sized sheets can be folded to create a four page newsletter. Or get creative and experiment with different folding patterns using a tabloid sized paper.
